Join our mailing list to receive updates on ELG and other environmental law events

Our group events vary from year-to-year depending on membership interest.  We see the ELG as a great way to build contacts and share resources between students with an interest in environmental or natural resources law, and so aim to plan a variety of social and academic events.

Our annual events include the Negotiation Competition and attendance at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC).

Careers in Environmental Law Panel

The ELG invites practitioners to share their experiences in the field of environmental law and to offer advice to students interested in pursuing careers in public interest, private practice, government and/or academia.  This event is co-hosted at Allard Hall by the Career Services Office.

The 2020 panel is scheduled for Thursday, October 15th from 12:30 - 1:30 pm and will be held on Zoom.

Negotiation Competition

The ELG hosts teams from UBC, UVIC, TRU and other western universities for an evening of environmental negotiation in November. Students of all year levels take part in teams of two and are judged by practitioners and faculty.  The event has been postponed until further notice due to COVID-19.

PIELC

In March, the ELG sends a delegation to the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC) in Eugene, OR.  This is a unique opportunity for group members to hear from leaders in the Public Interest Environmental Law field.
